GAME RULES: Snakes and Ladders: Special Aviation Edition

Starting the Game:All players begin on square #1 in Singapore. The goal is to reach square #100 in the USA. The first player to reach square #100 wins!

How to Move:Toss your coins to fall down on the floor. Each player starts with 3 coins:

  • Green Side Up: Move forward 1 step for each green coin.
  • Red Side Up: No steps for each red coin.

Example: If you toss 2 green coins and 1 red coin, move 2 steps forward.

Upgrades (Better Planes):When you land on upgrade squares (like simulators), you get more coins:

Simulator Square

Every player who lands on the Simulator Square gets upgraded to a better plane!
! Important if you already have the best plane LINER, you must through Go / No go One coin, if you have Red “No Go” meaning you failed your Simulator and you must downgrade your plane to Liner plane with 5 coin toss, if you have a Green “Go” It means you passed your Simulator and you can continue using your liner with 6 coins toss.

The progression of planes is as follows:

 

Single Engine = 3 coins

 

Dual Engine = 4 coins.

 

 

Jet = 5 coins.

 

 

Commercial Liner = 6 coins.

 

Players start the game with a Single Engine Plane with 3 coin toss. When landing on the Simulator Square, they are automatically upgraded to the next tier of planes.

Benefits of Upgrading:

Each player begins with 3 coins (one side red, the other green). Coins are tossed to determine the number of steps forward:

  • Single Engine Plane: 3 coins. E.g., 2 green and 1 red = move 2 squares forward.
  • Dual Engine Plane: 4 coins. Adds more potential to move further (up to 4 steps).
  • Jet Plane: 5 coins. Even higher chances to move up to 5 steps forward.
  • Liner, Commercial Plane: 6 coins. Maximum potential movement of 6 steps forward.

The more advanced the plane, the more coins you toss, and the further you can move!

Starting point in one of the most modern cities in the world.

VTBS (Bangkok, Thailand)

Short flight over tropical forests, wide rivers, and golden temples.

OMDB (Dubai, UAE)

Flight over deserts with sand dunes, skyscrapers, and artificial water pools.

HECA (Cairo, Egypt)

Flight over the Nile River and the pyramids of Giza.

LIRF (Rome, Italy)

Flight over the Mediterranean Sea, green hills, and historical sites.

EHAM (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Flight over water canals, tulip fields, and windmills.

EDDF (Frankfurt, Germany)

Squares 3 and 4: WSSS (Singapore)

Square #3: Represents the WSSS airport code for Singapore. This square features an airplane icon indicating a takeoff point.
Square #4: Represents flying over Singapore. Once players land on square #3, they can use the green arrow to move forward to square #4.

Landing on square #3 allows players to take off and advance to square #4. The green line visually connects these squares, representing a smooth transition between taking off from the airport and flying over the city of Singapore.

Square 8: ATC (Air Traffic Controller)

Square #8: Represents an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) station. When a player lands on this square, their plane is re-routed to square #14. The ATC ensures smooth navigation and redirects the flight as necessary.

This square provides an exciting mechanic that can help players skip forward to square #14, giving them a strategic advantage in the game.

Follow the green arrow to understand how your plane moves between the ATC square (#8) and the destination square (#14).

Squares 19, 20, 21: VTBS (Suvarnabhumi Airport and Storm Zones)

Square #19: Represents Thailand’s airport. A safe zone for players to plan their next steps.
Square #20 Orange one: VTBS – Suvarnabhumi Airport. This is a takeoff runway marked with the number “09,” which indicates a 090-degree eastward takeoff direction. Landing on the Orange Square Players must flip 6 coins:

Square #21: A thunderstorm zone. If a player lands here, they are rerouted back to square #19 via the red arrow, simulating an emergency landing due to bad weather.

Key Aviation Lessons:

  • Airport Codes: Players learn the airport’s shorthand (e.g., VTBS for Suvarnabhumi Airport).

Square 26: Green Light Tower

Square #26: Represents the green light tower, signaling that you are cleared to land. Players landing here proceed to square #28.

Square #28: A safe landing zone. Once the player lands here, they can continue rolling their plane forward to square #31 on their next turn.

Gameplay Mechanics:

  • Landing clearance is granted at square #26 (Green Light Tower).
  • After landing on square #28, players can keep rolling their plane forward until square #31.

Square 37: Closed Runway

Square #37: Represents a closed runway. If a player flies into this square, they must reroute back to square #28 using the red arrow.

  • Landing on square #37 results in an immediate reroute to square #28.

The game is won by the first player to reach square #100. This means navigating the skies faster and smarter than the other players, avoiding setbacks like storms, exams, and restricted areas.

Square 63: Failed Exam

Square #63: Represents a failed aviation exam. In the game, this square highlights the importance of maintaining your certification and the consequences of failing the exam.

  • All players who land on square #63 must take one step back to square #62.
  • If you are flying a single-engine plane, you simply go back to square #62 and try again.
  • If you are flying a more advanced plane, such as a jet plane (5 toss coins), you are demoted to the previous plane level. For example:
    • Jet Plane (5 toss coins) → Dual Plane (4 toss coins).

What Does 3 White and 1 Red Mean?

If you see 3 white lights and 1 red light, it means the plane is a little bit higher than it should be. Pilots usually aim to follow a 3-degree angle when landing, so this tells them to gently lower the plane to get back on track.

Why is This Important?

The PAPI lights help keep everyone safe by making sure the plane lands smoothly on the runway. If the pilot is too high or too low, the lights let them know so they can adjust before it’s too late.

Educational Lesson:

  • White lights = too high.
  • Red lights = too low.
  • 2 white and 2 red = just perfect!
